Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic disorder that effects about 500,000 people in the United States.  This disease leads to innumerable cysts in the kidney which can damage normal kidney tissue, therefore leading to kidney dysfunction.  Evaluation by the nephrologist is important to manage other factors such as blood pressure to prevent progression of kidney disease.  In some people, there are medications that could prevent increase in cyst size, therefore slow progression of kidney disease.
